Introduction

Dita Project M is so good that it’s almost high end, “almost” because it lacks a lot to be high end. The reason I say this is that it is far from the mid-fi products in its price range. My honest opinion is that this iem is unrivaled in the current conditions at the price it is sold. Because it largely achieves what iems 3-4 times more expensive than itself do.

And he has no faults? Of course there are. You will see them all in this review. But I must say in advance, Dita Project M gets a passing grade!

Build

Dita Project M comes with a great presentation. The box comes with its own Final tips, a cable with changeable jack and a very charismatic box.

I found Dita’s tip choice very successful for the tone of this iem. But I didn’t find the cable’s ability to transfer sound sufficient. I got better results when I tried different cables. Although the stock cable is good, it is not enough, I recommend aftermarket cable. Don’t worry, the standard 2-pin fits perfectly. On the other hand, the jack part of the cable is 10/10. I didn’t even realize it was changeable when I first got it, it has a simple but functional mechanism. Cardas has done a good job here.

As for the carrying case, it’s one of the coolest cases I’ve ever seen, but I couldn’t help but wonder if the plastic material would break. Other than that, it’s nice that the inside of the box is covered with silicone.

GLOWING TIPS

Yes, you read that right, the tips glow in the dark. Dude, that’s really cool. And these tips are really good, they pair really well with Project m.

Shels

The transparent shells are a marvel of design and look very elegant and professional. Behind the dynamic driver is the Dita logo, while the balanced armature is hidden inside the nozzle. The case structure is solid, the nozzle is a bit big but not a problem. The fact that it’s not standard 2-pin didn’t disturb me much because the standard 2-pin also fits.

Sound

When it comes to sound, Dita Project M is mesmerizing. Is all this accuracy, coherence, layering, feel really offered at this price? Yes. It’s admirable.

I’ve already mentioned that aftermarket cables are significantly better, but this review is based on the stock cable. I spent a little more time than usual listening to it for over 200 hours, during which time it burned in. So I will also include some specific details in this section.

Technics

Instrument separation, layering, imaging are very successful in every track I listened to. The soundstage is also very good, ignoring some tonal manipulations. All this aside, the resolution is very high. Therefore, detail retrieval / micro detail reproduction is very good. But the really commendable part is how this detail is managed. Thanks to good separation and positioning, you can hear all these details without interference or loss of emotion. Hearing the emotion in the instruments without loss of microdetail makes this headphone ALMOST high-end. Please don’t ask, “Is this iem high-end?”, it is not. But it’s really close.

Bass

I won’t focus too much on the electronic side of things, more on the instrumental side. The volume of low frequencies is enough but it’s not basshead. Depth is average, texture is good. Fast and tight. The punch is good, the extension is as it should be.

Throughout Musica Nuda – Non Andare Via you can feel the tension and vibration in every string of the double bass. The naturalness of the sound heard in this part points to the consistency of the sub-midbass balance. The subbass is a bit more dominant than the midbass. But not a lot.

If you listen to the drums starting from 04:25 on Allegeaon – Called home, you will notice that you can hear the stretching of the drums quite resolution. This tells you how fast the driver is and how accurate its response is.

After these two specific examples, I can safely say that well-tuned lower frequencies will make you enjoy listening to the instruments of this section. But for electronics, save your expectations for other iems. Project M has good bass but it is not the first choice for electronics. As a result, the bass is natural and consistent. If the track you’re listening to has a feeling given by the lower frequencies, you won’t miss it.

Mid

High-resolution, transparent, well-differentiated, well-layered mid. Project m creates a natural presentation on all instruments, whether strings or winds. The mids are clean enough to detect subtle nuances in fretless instruments.

In Judas Priest – Angle Of retribution, the distortion-toned guitar that enters at 02.34, the transition of emotion and the fact that it does not hurt the cymbal and rhythm guitar right behind it is marvelous.

In Loreena Mckennitt – The Mystic’s Dream, from 02:52 onwards, the oud, spoon, percussion and vocals are heard on the same level without interfering. A few tens of seconds later, bagpipes enter and there is no loss of detail. This shows us the technical success in the mid region.

Treble

The treble has high resolution and the extension is great. I must say that the air frequencies are a bit too much in this part, although it doesn’t break the neutrality. They are still natural and balanced, it’s just that the “sss” sound is a bit too dominant, that’s all. Dita project M has emphasized the cymbals a bit more and achieved both a good extension and a wide soundstage perception. On the other hand, the upper treble is much stronger than the lower treble. I can’t complain because the separation and positioning are still consistent. I’m not going to talk about a specific track in this section because I heard a bit more cymbals in every genre. The extra cymbals are not unpleasant when listening to jazz. It doesn’t destroy the integrity of the sound. It hisses on some tracks though.

Synergy

It pairs better with warm and neutral devices. I wouldn’t recommend pairing it with cold or very analytically-toned devices. It generally works well with the source, but the treble is too high on bright devices. The matching with the tips that come with it is an advantage in terms of sound.

Last Words

Project M is technically almost perfect for its price. Tonally it’s also very good, except for one small mistake. Considering the price and what it does, it’s a great iem. I think the cable should be changed because it deserves a better cable.
